Peppermint Mocha Protein Latte: 22g Protein

November 03, 2026

Picture December where the holiday drink is part of your morning, every morning, and the cardigan still comes off at the party because you want it off. No "I'll be good in January," no tracking the drive-thru line like a crime scene. This peppermint mocha protein latte is how. It is four ingredients, 3 minutes in the blender, and it carries 22 grams of protein for about 160 calories. That means the drink you were going to have anyway now counts as the protein part of breakfast instead of a sugar detour before it. Hot on a dark morning or iced in the afternoon, it tastes like the season and it moves you forward.

Why a Protein Latte Works for Fat Loss

The seasonal coffee drink is not what keeps you stuck. Skipping breakfast because you "already had a latte," then running on caffeine until 2pm and eating everything in sight by 4, is what keeps you stuck. Most women I coach eat almost no protein before lunch. Fixing that one thing changes how the whole afternoon goes.

The numbers make the case. A coffee-shop peppermint mocha with whipped cream typically lands around 400 calories, most of the carbs from syrup, with not much protein to show for it. This version is about 160 calories with 22 grams of protein, 2 grams of fat and 13 grams of carbs, with the peppermint coming from half a candy cane. Same holiday flavor, a fraction of the sugar, and a real protein serving in the cup.

If you want the bigger picture of how a drink like this fits into a full day of eating, here is how to use your macros so the treats are planned instead of negotiated.

Peppermint Mocha Protein Latte Recipe

Protein 22g  |  Fat 2g  |  Carbs 13g per serving, about 160 calories (recipe makes 1 serving)

Prep: 3 minutes. Adapted from The MacroChef's peppermint mocha protein latte, reworked for Prime Protein.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled for a few minutes so it is hot but not boiling
  • 1 scoop Mocha protein powder (I use Equip Prime Protein, 30% off with code COACHCAM)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 candy cane

Instructions

  1. Add the coffee, protein powder, almond milk and half candy cane to a blender.
  2. Blend until the candy cane has completely dissolved and the latte is frothy on top.
  3. Pour it into a mug. If you want a topping, crush the other half of the candy cane over the top (log it).
  4. For an iced version, use cold brew, blend the same way, and pour it over ice.

Macros are calculated for Prime Protein at 21 grams of protein a scoop and will shift a little by flavor and brand. Log the bag you actually used.

What Makes the Macros Work

The scoop does two jobs at once. It carries all 22 grams of protein, and the Mocha flavor gives you the chocolate-coffee base, so there is no syrup and no cocoa mix to add. Unsweetened almond milk is the low-fat swap for steamed whole milk, which is why fat stays at 2 grams. The flavor trick is the candy cane. Half a candy cane is both the sweetener and the peppermint, and it blends straight into the coffee. That is where most of the 13 grams of carbs come from, and it is a lot less than a few pumps of peppermint syrup.

Tips for a Smooth, Frothy Latte

Do not pour boiling coffee straight into the blender with the powder. Let it sit for a few minutes so it is hot, not scalding, and the powder blends smooth instead of clumping. Hot liquid also expands in a blender, so fill it no more than halfway, take the center cap out of the lid, cover the opening with a folded towel, and start on low. Blend long enough that you cannot hear the candy cane anymore. If you are using a handheld frother instead, crush the candy cane into fine dust first, or swap it for a drop of peppermint extract and a little maple syrup.

Swaps and Variations

Mocha is the classic, and Chocolate Mint makes a double-mint version that leans hard into the holiday. Plain Chocolate works if you have it, and Cookies and Cream with the candy cane tastes like a peppermint cookie. For a white peppermint latte, use Vanilla and keep everything else the same. Want it higher carb for a training morning? Use oat milk instead of almond milk. Want it richer and more filling? Add a splash of half-and-half or a little whipped cream on top, and log it. Drinking it in the evening? Use decaf and it becomes a holiday dessert in a mug.

How to Fit It Into Your Day

The best spot is breakfast. Pair it with two eggs and you have a 30-plus gram protein start before you leave the house. It also works at 2pm, when the office cookie tray starts calling, and as a pre-workout drink if you train in the morning and cannot stomach a full meal. At 2 grams of fat and 13 grams of carbs, it leaves almost your whole day open. On a busy morning, it pairs well with one of the pecan pie protein bars from this series.

Meal Prep Notes

The latte itself is best made fresh. A blended latte separates in the fridge. What you can prep is everything else. Crush a box of candy canes into a jar so a half cane is a spoonful. Pre-portion a scoop of protein into small jars for the week so the morning is pour, blend, done. If you drink it iced, make a batch of cold brew on Sunday and it is ready all week.

Here is the shift. The holiday latte was never the problem. Skipping protein all morning, then running on caffeine and white-knuckling until dinner, is the problem. Put protein in the cup, eat the damn food, and December gets a lot easier. If you are ready for a coach to build your numbers around the life you actually live, apply for coaching here.

The Protein I Use (and Its Biggest Sale of the Year)

Equip Prime Protein grass-fed beef isolate protein powder bag

This latte is built around Equip Prime Protein. It is a gut-friendly, dairy free, whole food sourced protein made from grass-fed beef isolate, with naturally occurring collagen and gelatin. No whey, no gluten, no soy. No gums. No sugar alcohols. No fake sweeteners. Nothing artificial, ever. Every flavor comes in a regular and a stevia-free version, and I buy stevia-free because I cannot stand the aftertaste. Mocha is the flavor for this latte, and Chocolate Mint works too. My own shelf always has Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Churro on it.

Equip's Black Friday sale runs Thursday, November 19th through Monday, November 30th: 40% off subscriptions and 30% off one-time orders through equipfoods.com/COACHCAM or with code COACHCAM at checkout. It is the biggest sale they run all year, so it is the time to stock up for the season. Grab Mocha for this latte and Cinnamon Roll for my crustless protein pumpkin pie before Thanksgiving. That is an affiliate link, so I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It is the only protein I recommend to my clients. If you already have a powder you like, any scoop in the 20 to 25 gram protein range works here, just log what you used.
