Protein Dirt Cups Recipe: Halloween, 14g
The candy bowl has been sitting on your counter for a week and tonight is the night it empties out. The kids come home with pillowcases full of fun size bars, you hand out three more to the doorbell, and somewhere around 8pm you want something sweet too, you just do not want it to be a stolen mini Snickers eaten standing at the counter while you tell yourself it does not count. This is the recipe for that exact night. Fifteen minutes of hands on time, an hour in the fridge, and you are eating a layered chocolate pudding cup with 14 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, and 32 grams of carbs, Oreos and gummy worms included.
Why a Protein Dessert Works on Halloween
Halloween is not the day that derails a fat loss plan. The three days after it are, when the leftover candy is still in the house and "I already had some yesterday" turns into a habit that lasts until Thanksgiving. A dessert that fits your macros on the actual night breaks that pattern before it starts. You get the chocolate and the Oreos and the gummy worms, it counts toward your protein instead of against it, and you are not standing in the pantry at 9pm negotiating with a candy wrapper.
The numbers matter here more than usual. A regular dirt cup, the kind made with instant pudding, Cool Whip, and crushed Oreos, typically runs 300 to 350 calories with maybe 3 grams of protein and almost all of it from sugar and fat. This one lands around 200 calories with 14 grams of protein, because the pudding itself is doing double duty as flavor and protein source. Same layered chocolate dessert, same crunch on top, but one of them helps you hit your number for the day and the other one does not touch it. If Halloween weekend has a habit of undoing a week you worked hard for, this is how you keep the holiday without the spiral that usually follows it.

Top with crushed Oreos and gummy worms.
Macros are from my cookbook and will vary by brand, especially the protein powder and the pudding mix. Log what you actually used.
What Makes the Macros Work
The protein powder is doing the heavy lifting here, not the pudding mix. Blending it right into the pudding base instead of serving it on the side is what turns a 3 gram protein dessert into a 14 gram one without changing how it tastes or looks. The sugar-free pudding mix and the sugar-free Cool Whip are the other half of the trick, they give you the full creamy, layered dirt cup texture for a fraction of the sugar a regular box mix and real whipped cream would add. The Oreos and gummy worms are the only true treats in the recipe and they are accounted for in the 32 grams of carbs, nothing is hidden.
Tips for Dirt Cups That Actually Set
The one place people rush this recipe is the fridge step. If you skip the hour of chilling and try to layer the pudding while it is still loose, it will not hold its shape against the Cool Whip and you end up with a soupy cup instead of clean layers. Whisk the pudding, protein, and milk until there are zero dry pockets of powder, lumps will not smooth out once it is cold. Use a small glass or mason jar for the layering, the dirt cup effect only reads when the layers are visible through the sides. Crush the Oreos by hand or in a bag with a rolling pin rather than a food processor, you want visible crumbs, not dust.
Swaps and Variations
Any Equip flavor that leans chocolate works here. Chocolate keeps it classic, Chocolate Churro adds a cinnamon edge that plays well against the Oreos, and Cookies and Cream doubles down on the cookie flavor if you want to lean in even further. Want it higher carb for a training day? Add an extra mini Oreo or two to each layer, you will add roughly 5 to 8 grams of carbs per cup. Want more fat and more satiety? Swap the sugar-free Cool Whip for regular whipped cream, which brings fat up to around 8 to 10 grams per serving. No instant pudding mix in the house? A sugar-free chocolate Jello pudding cup prepared per the box works as a substitute base, just blend your protein scoop into it before it sets.
How to Fit It Into Your Day
At 14 grams of protein and only 3 grams of fat, this is an easy fit after a dinner that was lighter on protein than you planned, which on a night full of doorbell interruptions is most of us. It also works as a make-ahead dessert for a Halloween party or a kids' trick-or-treat gathering, since it is already portioned into individual cups and nobody can tell the difference between this and the dirt cups everyone else brought. If your carbs are tight for the day, split a serving in half and save the rest for tomorrow, the layers hold fine overnight. Track it as one serving of protein powder, one serving of sugar-free pudding mix, and the Oreos you actually used and you will be within a gram or two of the numbers above.
Meal Prep Notes
This one batches well for a party night. Double or triple the pudding base and portion it into as many small cups or jars as you need, then top each one right before serving so the Oreos stay crunchy instead of going soft in the fridge overnight. The pudding base itself holds in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days, so you can make it Thursday for a Saturday gathering. What does not freeze well is the Cool Whip layer, so keep this one refrigerated, not frozen.
Here is the shift most women need to make around a holiday like this one. Halloween candy was never the thing keeping you stuck. Treating one night of chocolate like proof you cannot be trusted around food, and then eating that way for a week to "make up for it," is the thing. Knowing how to fit the treats you actually want into your macros is a skill, and it is one we teach every client in the first two weeks. If you are ready to stop treating every holiday like a reason to start over on Monday, book your call here.
The Protein I Use (and How to Get 30% Off)

Every recipe in my sweet treats guide is built on Equip Prime Protein, and this one is no different, the pudding base would not hold together the same way with a plant-based blend. It is a gut-friendly, dairy free, whole food sourced protein made from grass-fed beef isolate. No whey, no gluten, no soy, no gums, no sugar alcohols, no fake sweeteners, nothing artificial, ever. That is why it blends smooth into a pudding base instead of clumping or thinning it out. Every flavor comes in a regular and a stevia-free version, and I buy stevia-free because I cannot stand the aftertaste. Chocolate is the flavor for this recipe. Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Churro, Banana, and Cookies and Cream are the others I always have on the shelf, and most of them work here too.

That is an affiliate link, so I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It is the only protein I recommend to my clients and the one every macro count in this series is built on. Any powder works if a scoop is about 25g protein and 120 calories, just log the scoop you actually used.
